A Ritchie County Sheriff's deputy Cpl. Jim Asbury is facing a felony charge of falsifying accounts and is accused of lying about how many hours he had worked while being paid.

Ritchie County Sheriff Bryan Backus said Cpl. Asbury was arrested Friday and released on a $10,000 bond.

"This is one of the worst events that can happen in either the deputy's career or the administration's," said Sheriff Backus in a news release.

Sheriff Backus told media he is not able to disclose further information about the arrest due to the ongoing investigation.

Further charges against Cpl. Asbury could be filed.

Cpl. Asbury is suspended with pay while the investigation continues.
