Glenn F. Ellison, 79 - Ashland, Ohio

Glenn F. Ellison, 79 of Ashland, Ohio passed away Thursday evening, April 10, 2014 at Hospice of North Central Ohio.

Glenn was born February 25, 1935 in Oka, West Virginia, the son of the late John and Fanny (nee Snodgrass) Ellison. He graduated from Calhoun County High School at Grantsville, West Virginia in 1950.

Shortly after graduation Glenn moved to Ashland and worked at the Faultless Rubber Company for 16 years where he served as President of URW Local 196 for 10 years. In July 1969, he was appointed to the URW International Union Staff where he served as Field Representative, District Director, and Administrative Assistant to the International Secretary-Treasurer.

He was elected International Secretary-Treasurer in 1990 and served in that office until July 1, 1995, when he became Administrative Assistant to the International Secretary-Treasurer of the United Steelworkers Union upon the merger of the URW into the USW. He retired December 1, 1995.

Glenn was a member of the Nankin Federated Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles #2178 for 60 years, a 54 year member of Ashland Masonic Lodge #151 F.& A.M., Chapter # 207, Council #128, a member of the Scottish Rite and a 32 degree Mason.

On November 24, 1957, he married Betty Metcalf, who survives him. Also surviving is son James (Sue) Ellison and daughter Cathleen (David) Bishop, three granddaughters, Beth (Dan) Sanders, Andrea Ellison, Sarah (Jake) Eilenfeld and five great grandchildren, Garett, Kaylee, Cody, Austin and Hunter all of Ashland, one brother, Jennings (Bonnie) Ellison of Orma, West Virginia and a large number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Aundrel, Leo and Charles Ellison and one sister, Irene Molessa.

Burial was in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
