The people of Calhoun have spoken and are in favor of Sunday hunting. Now that is has been approved, when does it begin? Sunday hunting will become law after the votes are canvassed and the election results are certified. Canvassing will be Monday the 19th. Turkey season goes out on Saturday, May 24th. So turkey hunters will not get a Sunday to hunt this spring.

However, any animal in season is legal to hunt on Sunday after that date. Animals in season are coyotes, woodchucks, skunks, possums and such. For most people, the first opportunity to hunt on Sunday will be in the fall. Please note that Sunday hunting will not be allowed the Sunday before any major seaon opener such as deer, bear, and turkey.

It is an important reminder that a hunter must have written permission that states the individual is allowed to hunt on the land on Sunday. Not only must written permission to hunt on the land be stated, but the ability to hunt on Sunday must be stated as part of the permission.

Of course, if a landowner is not in favor of Sunday hunting, he or she does not have to allow Sunday hunting on his or her land. Sunday hunting is truly a win for the citizens of Calhoun County. A true reward for the working man.
