Daniel Smith, 100 - Otto

Daniel Smith, of Otto, West Virginia, was born in Looneyville, West Virginia on January 12, 1914 and passed away on May 1, 2014 at the age of 100.

He was preceded in death by his parents George W. and Mary Ann Harris Smith, nine sisters, and four brothers.

Daniel was a veteran of World War II where he served in Patton's Third Army and retired from Monarch Rubber Company after 27 years.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margie Bower Smith; two daughters, Beverly Lorraine McElwee (James) of Pensacola, Florida and Dovie Dunn (Scott) of Huntington, West Virginia; three grandchildren, Robert Daniel McElwee (Bunny) of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, Michelle Rule of Columbus, Ohio, and Tina Cathleen "Cathi" Gathings (Andre`) of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; and two great-grandchildren, Cierra Gathings and Isiah Gathings of Fort Leonard Wood.

Services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer, West Virginia with Rev. Danny Whited and Rev. Donald Cottrill officiating. Burial will be in the Smith Cemetery near Clover, West Virginia. Visiting is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
