ROANE NATIVE DR. BILL ATKINSON DIES AT 82

Roane County native Dr. Bill M. Atkinson of Little Hocking OH has died at 82.

A former Reedy resident, graduate of Spencer High School and math teacher, graduated from WVU School of Medicine in in 1965 and was a family practitioner in Spencer for a brief period, prior to becoming a surgeon.

He was the first Trauma Director for St. Joseph Hospital and was instrumental in developing the Trauma program for an 11 county service area.

The late Dr. William E. Barnes of Calhoun and Atkinson were partners in a surgical practice in Parkersburg.

He was Past President of West Virginia State Medical Association.

During his career he served as President of Medical Staff at St. Joseph Hospital in 1976 and in 1984-85 he served as Medical Staff President at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital. Later, he served as Medical Director of Marietta Memorial Hospital until his retirement in 1996.

Visitation will be held at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home in Belpre, Ohio on Wednesday, April 30th 2014 from 2pm-8pm.

A Celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Lambert-Tatman in Belpre.

Following the Celebration of Life Thursday, a visitation will be held at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer WV from 2 to 4 p.m. and graveside services will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
