| Esther Virginia Clevenger, age 86 of Newberne Road, Tanner Community, Gilmer County, West Virginia, departed this life on Thursday April 17, 2014 in the Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center, Elkins, WV, following a short illness. Born August 11, 1927 in Gilmer County, daughter of the late Florice K. and Nellie Maude Goff Hinzman. Esther graduated from Tanner High School in 1945 and was a 1949 graduate of Glenville State College. She taught school for 30 years, mostly in Ohio, and returned to Gilmer County to live following retirement. She was an active member of the Newberne United Methodist Church, serving as President of the Women's Group and as Church Treasurer for many years. She was a life member of the Glenville State College Alumni Association, Tanner High School Alumni Association, life time member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, and also a member of the Christlieb, Christlip, Crislip Family Association. On June 1, 1949 she was united in marriage to Ruble Clevenger, who preceded her in death on July 29, 1988. Surviving is 1 sister, Ruby Frymier of Tanner, WV. Along with her husband and parents, Esther was preceded in death by 1 brother, Leo Paige Hinzman, and 2 sisters, Grace Wells and Gladys Woodford. Funeral Services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc, 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV, 26351, at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014 with Pastor Eddie Balis, and Chaplain Bryon Bukovesky officiating. Burial will follow in the Horn Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at the mortuary. Ellyson Mortuary Inc is assisting the family of Esther Clevenger with arrangements.
