REGIONAL JAILS PLACE BAN ON VISITORS TOUCHING INMATES

(04/17/2014)
Following what is reported to be an ever increasing problem with visitors passing contraband to regional jail prisoners in the state's 10 facilities, the WV Department of Corrections have issued a "no touching" policy.

West Virginia Regional Jail Authority executive director Joe DeLong says the policy prohibits inmates from hugging, kissing or shaking hands with loved ones at the beginning and end of contact visits.

It also prohibits children from sitting with inmates.

DeLong says the policy is to stop the smuggling of drugs.

DeLong says a jail administrator reported that a visitor hid drugs inside a baby's diaper.
