HONEY-LOVERS BEWARE OF IMITATIONS

(04/12/2014)
The Food and Drug Administration is now taking steps to ensure that shoppers who buy honey are getting the real thing, issuing new guidelines.

The guidelines will prevent food companies from adding sugar, other sweeteners and ingredients to pure honey and then calling it "honey."

If those sweeteners are added, the label should read "blend of sugar and honey" or "blend of honey and corn syrup."

Honey is one of nature's perfect foods. It never spoils, it's easy to store, tastes delicious and has many health benefits.

There is plenty of real honey available locally, produced by regional beekeepers.
