JAMES SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR 2014 MUD FORK SHOOTING - Braxton Man Enters Plea Agreement

UPDATE 12/16/15 - A Sutton man, Adam James, about 30, was sentenced one to three years in the state penitentiary following his conviction of attempt to commit unlawful assault, according to Shannon Johnson, Calhoun Prosecuting Attorney.

He was sentenced in Calhoun Circuit Court by Judge Thomas Evans III.

James was given credit for time served and was ordered to pay the court costs associated with the case.

The charges are related to the 2014 shooting of Mud Fork resident Robert "Rob" King, about 40, the man shot in the head. The shooting happened in a church parking lot.

UPDATE 10/6/15 - Adam C. James, 29, of Sutton, was set for trial in Grantsville Tuesday for the attempted murder of a Mud Fork, Calhoun man, shooting him in the head.

Prosecutor Shannon Johnson said, "Prior to jury selection, his attorneys announced that he wished to accept the State's plea offer."

"Mr. James entered a no contest plea to attempt to commit unlawful assault, a felony. He will be sentenced on December 10th," she said.

James allegedly shot Robert "Rob" King, about 40, of Coen Drive, Stinson Road, in a church parking lot.

4/7/2014: JAMES CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE IN MUD FORK SHOOTING - King Shot In Head, Dispute In Church Parking Lot

Authorities have arrested 29-year-old Adam C. James of Sutton for allegedly shooting Robert "Rob" King, about 40, of Coen Drive, Stinson Road, Friday evening.

James, who was reportedly with another male when the shooting happened in the parking lot of the Mud Fork Church, has been charged with attempted homicide, murder, according to Central Regional Jail.

James and another man reportedly got into an argument with King, allegedly shooting King with a handgun in the head.

Reports indicate another person could be charged in the incident.

Trooper Mohr with the Braxton County detachment told Channel 13 News that the Braxton Detachment arrested James at his home in Sutton.

James is being held in the Central Regional Jail with bond set at $500,000.

King, who drove to his residence after being shot, has been released from a Charleston hospital.

A Stinson Road (Mud Fork) man was reportedly shot Friday evening in a church parking lot by a shooter who fled the scene.

Sources at the scene identified the victim as Robert "Rob" King, about 40, who lives on Coen Drive, known locally as "Crack Holler," a short distance from the Mud Fork Church.

King was taken to a Charleston Hospital by Minnie Hamilton EMS, reports saying King did not suffer a life-threatening wound and is recovering.

Sources told the Hur Herald that King was shot by a handgun in the parking lot of the Mud Fork Church during a reported dispute with two male subjects.

State Police are reportedly looking for one or both the subjects, but the agency has not confirmed the shooting incident nor have any names been released.

The report of the shooting to 911 was at 6 p.m. Friday with the State Police and Calhoun Sheriffs Department responding to the incident.
