VIOLENT FIGHT AT WV WESLEYAN CAMPUS RESULTS IN INJURIES - Outbreak Involved Alderson-Broaddus Students

(03/25/2014)
While WVU gets lot of attention as the most "party hardy" school in the USA, with outbreaks following sports victories, car and couch burnings, often resulting in injuries, now comes what media is describing a large, violent fight at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon.

At least six people were treated for injuries when a fight involving 20 people or more broke out outside the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity house Sunday morning at 1:30 a.m.

One person received a broken jaw, while another received stab wounds and was taken to the local hospital and transferred to Ruby Memorial.

Police are saying the fight involved students from neighboring Alderson-Broaddus University at Phillipi.

Wesleyan is a college underwritten by West Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church and Alderson-Broaddus has longtime connections to the West Virginia Baptist Convention and the American Baptist Churches in the U.S.A.

"At this point we're trying to piece together everything that occurred," said Buckhannon Police Chief Matt Gregory. "We're still conducting interviews and doing follow-ups."

West Virginia Wesleyan issued the following statement Monday afternoon: "We are working closely with local law enforcement officials regarding the investigation of the assault of Wesleyan students by a large group of students from another campus," according to a Wesleyan press release.
