The Calhoun County Commission has received a $17,356 preservation grant for Calhoun Clerk Jean Simers office to purchase a color scanner, one map cabinet and Mylar sleeves to encapsulate plat maps, and to index deed books digitized.

Simers said, "This project will directly help the public to access records in addition to assisting preservation."

The statewide grants of $410,409 came from the Records Management and Preservation Board and $79,950 in survey and planning grant funds.

The Records Management and Preservation Board was created by the West Virginia Legislature in 2000 to develop a system of records management and preservation for county governments.
