Eventually Old Man Winter has to loosen his grasp on us. The days are getting longer and spring is slowly on its way.

With spring comes trout fishing. In the near future, the Calhoun Park ponds will be stocked full of lovely rainbow trout. These rainbows are from Indian Lake Fisheries of Clendenin and will be larger than those normally stocked by the state.

This year we will be able to stock the lower pond near Rt.16 along with an upper pond near the barn. Look for stocking to occur within the next month or so. Hopefully, the ice will soon melt on the ponds. We do not want to stock with ice on the pond as it is a safety issue.

This stocking was made possible by local donations. A well deserved thank you goes out to everyone who helped raise funds for this community project.

Calhoun County is one of the very few counties in the state not stocked by the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources. We look forward to creels stuffed full of a limit of plump rainbow trout for the citizens of Calhoun County.
