Calhoun basketball coach Danny Bunch, always asks Cody Starcher for "one good minute" whenever he sends him into a game.

That's because the big senior is playing his first season of high school basketball and Bunch expects Starcher to give one good minute when he gives one of the Red Devils' front line a breather.

But Tuesday night because of foul trouble to the Red Devils' front line Starcher had to play more. He played 4-5 minutes and they were good minutes as the Red Devils scored a 52-42 victory over visiting South Harrison.

With Mason Sheldon, Tyler Gerwig and Sam Brady all in foul trouble it fell to Starcher to buy some time with his play. Statistically he had two rebounds and two fouls. But his contibution in the game couldn't be measured by statistics alone.

With Starcher spelling the three starters Calhoun good a strong game from senior Ryan Slider who led the way with a game high 17 points while adding 10 rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Ethyn Miller backed Slider with 11 points while the foul-plagued front line had eight from Brady and Gerwig and two from Sheldon.

Tyler Sims, who had been scorching the nets in recent game drew a special response from South Harrison as the Hawks had one or two guys on him all nigt long. He finished with eight points.

South Harrison led much of the early going and was still ahead midway through the third quarter before a Calhoun surge gave the Red Devils the lead. Once ahead Calhoun was never headed as it raised its record to 7-10.

South Harrison was led by Zack Wentz and Dylan Smith with 12 apiece as it dropped to 5-15 on the season. Jacob Montgomery and Ian Riggleman had six each. Cory Messenger had three, Hunter Hitt two and Austin Barker one for the 5-15 Hawks.

The Red Devils also won the junior varsity game by a 36-28 count after overcoming a lethargic first half.

The Hawks led 14-6 at halftime only to see Calhoun roar back with 30 second half points.

Dakota Jarvis led the way with 13 points. He was backed by Dyklan Heiney with eight, Nick Watkins with five, Austin Gribble with four, Luke Sheldon with three, Jerry Jones with two and Zack Yanero with one. Riley Cain played but did not score.

South Harrison was led by Jonathan Whitehair with 11 and Barker with 10.

Calhoun returns to action tonight with a game at Doddridge County.
