RICHARD LOWE WIRT'S "HISTORY HERO" - Preserving And Sharing State's Rich History

(02/15/2014)
Richard T. Lowe of Elizabeth has been selected as Wirt County's "History Hero," joining 38 designated WV historians in Charleston Thursday, sponsored by WV Culture and History.

Lowe was nominated by the Wirt County Historical Society.

Lowe has made a significant difference in preserving and sharing the state's rich history.

For more than 25 years he has been a supporter of the Beauchamp-Newman Museum, and oversaw a major fundraising project in 2011 and spear-headed a project to obtain a security system for the museum.

He prepared a photo book "Images of America-Wirt County" in 2010, still available.

Lowe coordinated a ceremony to mark the centennial of the Wirt courthouse.

He has also worked to establish a historical house museum in the McClung House.
