OHIO PRIEST SENTENCED FOR ABUSING BOY IN SPENCER TWO DECADES AGO

(02/13/2014)
An Ohio priest Robert Poandl, who was convicted of taking a 10-year-old boy to Spencer, West Virginia, for sex more than two decades ago, has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison.

Poandl was convicted in September, 2013, of transporting a minor in interstate commerce with the intent of engaging him in sex. The court could have sentenced Poandl up to 10 years.

Ohio authorities say the priest from suburban Cincinnati took the boy to Spencer in 1991 and raped him while visiting a church there.

Poandl has continued to deny those allegations even as a federal judge sentenced him Wednesday, implying the case was brought for money.

The 32-year-old accuser didn't tell law enforcement until 2009 that he'd been abused.
