ROANE MAN INDICTED IN DUI DEATH - Calhoun Residents Indicted

A Spencer man, Chaz Simmons, 24, has been indicted by a Roane County grand jury for charges of DUI resulting in death and DUI resulting in injury.

Simons crashed into a Looneyville residence in July, 2013, killing Kelly Casto, 30, and injuring her boyfriend William Ralph Cottrell, 38.

Simmons told Roane deputies he had seven to eight beers at a party in Calhoun County and he doesn't remember anything, saying he was on State Rt. 36 driving to a job in Clarksburg.

The grand jury indicted Richard Earl Conley, 55, of Country Lanes, Mt. Zion, for possession of meth with intent to deliver and obstructing an officer. Records say a Roane sheriff's deputy found Conley smoking meth in a truck on Johnson Creek.

Zebadiah Hamrick, 34, of Spencer, who is facing drug charges in Calhoun, was indicted for attempting to operate a meth lab and possession of both meth and marihuana.

Michael Grogg, 51, of Daniels Run, Millstone, was indicted for possession and manufacturing marihuana. Police responded to Grogg's girlfriend's house and found 20 marihuana plants.

In Roane County Circuit Court, Dennis Wayne Bailey, 20, of Country Lanes, Mt. Zion, was sentenced 1-3 years of home confinement.

Bailey was originally sentenced to the Anthony Center for Youthful Offenders after he pled guilty to delivery of amphetamines, but he was kicked out of the facility after 17 days, the case is being returned to circuit court.

In Roane Circuit Court, Michael Grogg, 29, of Grantsville pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of failure to pay child support. He will be sentenced on March 17.
