FINANCE ISSUES WILL TOP SCHOOL BOARD'S MONDAY MEETING

(02/10/2014)
The Calhoun Board of Education will meet Monday at 6:30 p.m. to hear a report from Joe Panetta, Assistant State Superintendent for Finance from the West Virginia Department of Education, regarding a deficit the local school system is experiencing.

Panetta had to cancel his appearance at a board work session this week.

State education officials originally reported the deficit at $558,000 in 2013, but Calhoun Superintendent of Schools Roger Propst discovered that the shortfall was actually $348,161.

Calhoun Schools was one of five state county systems targeted by the state in February, 2013, as having major budget deficits.

The deficit is not related to missing money, rather as a shortfall to meet expenses.

The school board's agenda can be found on their web site.
