Thomas A. McPherson, 77 - Burnsville

Thomas A. McPherson age 77 of Oil Creek Road, Burnsville, West Virginia, departed this life at 10:10 p.m., Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at his residence following a brief illness.

Born April 11, 1936 in Braxton County, son of the late Thomas A. and Mary Posey McPherson.

Tom was a graduate of Burnsville High School, Class of 1954, Glenville State College, Class of 1958, and Stonier Graduate School of Banking, a division of Rutgers University. While attending Glenville State College, Tom played 3 years as a guard for the basketball team. He worked for the United Bank of Glenville for 40 years and retired in 2001 as a Vice President.

Tom was a big supporter of Glenville State College Athletics and was a major contributor to the new Waco Center for their basketball court. He was on the Board of Governors at Glenville State College, former president of the Glenville State College Foundation, and a member of the West Virginia Bankers Association. In his free time, Tom enjoyed riding horses, riding motorcycles, trout fishing, attending Glenville State College sporting events, and was a Methodist by faith.

On July 11, 1958 he was united in marriage to Mary Lee Wiant McPherson who survives at their Burnsville home.

Also surviving are 2 sons, Jerry McPherson of Burnsville, Brad McPherson and wife Evie of Morgantown, WV; 1 daughter, Sherrie McPherson and fiancée Michael Bennett of Weston, WV; 2 brothers, Don McPherson and wife Nanette of Georgia, and Ronald McPherson and wife Eleanor of New Mexico; 2 sisters, Patty Stutler and Mary Jane Kelley and husband Jerry both of Michigan. There are 6 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 2 step great-grandchildren also surviving.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV 26351 at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014 with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the McPherson Cemetery, Burnsville, WV. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Glenville State College Athletics.
