John Loren Rice, 80 - Fairfax, VA

John Loren Rice, 80, of Fairfax, VA passed away at Fairfax Hospital January 15, 2014 after suffering a stroke.

John was born in Orosi, CA April 21, 1933 to Ray and Laura Skaggs Rice. He grew up in Fairfield, CA and graduated from Armijo High School.

After serving 4 years in the US Air Force, 1952-1956, he moved to Virginia. In 1958 he moved to the City of Fairfax. He was active in his church and a Baptist by faith. He loved his family and friends and especially his children and grandchildren. He was happiest when they were around.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Monna Sampson Rice, formerly of Calhoun; two sons, Gary Ray Rice (Tracy), Winchester, VA and Loren Keith Rice (Angela), Hamilton, VA. Grandchildren, Rachel Rice, and Justin Rice, Raleigh, NC, Jackson, and Isaiah Rice, Hamilton, VA. Step-children, Stephanie (Casey) Blair, North Carolina and Crystal (Darby) Robinson and Shannon Williamson both of Winchester, VA He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Frances Rice Woodruff.

Viewing will be Monday Jan 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with service being held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Viewing and services will both be held at Everly Funeral Home, 10565 Main Street, Fairfax, VA 22030 Interment will be at Hillsboro Cemetery, 12068 Arnold Lane, Purcellville, VA.
