INCUMBENT WESTFALL FILES FOR COUNTY COMMISSIONER - Commissioner President 2014

(01/15/2014)
Incumbent Calhoun Commissioner Scottie "Chip" Westfall (D) was the first candidate to file for public office Monday morning, seeking re-election as a county commissioner.

The commssioners appointed Westfall as commission president for 2014 this week.

Appointed County Clerk Jean Simers said she will file for County Clerk on Thursday, the day she completes her one year of service.

Westfall said he has tried to measure up to his promise to county citizens when he first ran for the position: "I believe that Calhoun County government should be open, honest and accessible to all of the people of the county. I am dedicated to working hard with other officials of local and state government to continually improve the county."

Calhoun Clerk Jean Simers says offices available for filing will be three Calhoun Board of Education seats, a county commission seat and the election of a County Clerk for the un-expired term.

On the 2014 ballot, voting will be on allowing Sunday hunting in the county.

A special election for the renewal of a levy to support Calhoun emergency services and criminal justice services is set for February 1, with no increase in taxation.

Simers says filing for the open seats will be between January 13-25 in the clerk's office.
