LITTLE KANAWHA BUS SERVICING GILMER COUNTY - Low Cost Service Has Many Options

(01/12/2014)
The Little Kanawha Bus has expanded to a fourth WV county.

The low-cost bus service is now being provided in Gilmer County, already serving Calhoun, Roane and Jackson County.

The transit company said a survey of interest was distributed by the Family Resource Network (FRN), a competitive process between Gilmer and Wirt Counties to see which county needed the bus service and a commitment from county commissions.

LKB Director Darlene Crane the highly successful public transit service was launched in Gilmer County on Jan. 6.

LKB will provide "demand response" public transportation service for Gilmer residents.

That means if you need a ride to Glenville, you call and make a reservation at least one day before, and you will be picked up. "With a simple phone call, you can reserve a ride on one of our well-maintained vehicles and be driven to your destination by a specially trained, friendly, safe and courteous LKB driver. We'll pick you up at home, school, job site or any other location within the Gilmer County service area and get you where you need to go!", says the bus service.

Reservations should be made by 3:00 p.m. the day before you need a ride, or by 3:00 p.m. on Friday for a Monday ride.

The LKB can be flagged down anywhere along a regular route. Anyone can ride the bus. Children 12 and under must be with an adult and if the law requires the child to be in a car seat, you must bring one.

The LKB is wheelchair accessible and drivers are trained in passenger assistance

The bus will make runs to Clarksburg, Weston and Flatwoods.

The fees are reasonable.

Round trip fares for travel within the county are based on mileage; the minimum fare is $1.00 and covers the first 10 miles of travel.

For each additional 10 miles, there is an additional $1.00 charge.

Round trips from the LKB service area to Clarksburg is $14.00 and round trip to Weston and Flatwoods is $10.00.
