Jarrett "Buzz" Tawney, 94 - Spencer

Jarrett "Buzz" Tawney, 94, of Spencer, West Virginia, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014 at home.

He was born April 2, 1919 in Roane County, a son of the late Aaron and Almon Graham Tawney. He was a retired schoolteacher and coach at the former Walton and Spencer High Schools and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by a daughter, Nancy Tawney of Cross Lanes, West Virginia; a son, Frederick J. Tawney of Athens, West Virginia; a sister, Ann Desposito of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a brother, Dan Tawney of Newton, West Virginia; and two grandchildren, Kaci and Susan Settle.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Roberts Tawney; a daughter, Karen Frances Tawney; three sisters, Mamie Haines, Florence Dalton, and Mabel Tawney Rogers; and five brothers, Harry, Earnest, Garrison, Clement, and Clark.

Service will be at 11:00am on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer with Rev. Jackie Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Eventide Cemetery in Spencer. Visiting will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
