GAS PRODUCER CHESAPEAKE ENERGY FINED $3.2 MIL WV WATER POLLUTION - Settlement Includes $6.5 Mil Restoration

Massey Energy was a company with a lengthy record of environmental abuses and proponent of mountaintop removal and was fined $2.5 billion for violating the federal Clean Water Act. The company eventually settled for a few million. The violations happened thousands of times in both West Virginia and Kentucky. The company help initiate the attack called Obama's "War on Coal." This week coal executive Bob Murray came to Charleston to bring his criticism of President Obama to West Virginia, telling a state-sponsored energy conference that the mining industry is "being destroyed" by Obama and "his radical followers and supporters." Now comes the "War of Gas?" Chesapeake Energy, one of the nation's top gas drillers, with a $3.2 million in WV water pollution fines, the company agreeing to spend $6.5 million on restoration over allegations the company buried streams and wetlands without permits at 26 West Virginia locations.
