Rhoda G. Starcher Griffin, 94, of Spencer, died Saturday, December 14, 2013, in the Roane General Hospital, Spencer. She was born November 18, 1919, in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Neal and Grace Sampson Starcher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Smith; and a son, Dannie Clayton Griffin; eight sisters, Edna Starcher, Thelma Carpenter, Ethel Bowers, Hattie Runnion, Eloise Smith, Eleanor Goodrich, Ora Bowley and Hazel Starcher; six brothers, Lonnie, Clifford, Harold, Otho, Deo and Pete Starcher; a half-brother, Alvie Starcher. Mrs. Griffin was a retired employee of Miletree Center and a former employee of Gordon Memorial Hospital and Angelcare. She also enjoyed cooking and spending time with family. Survivors include three daughters and son-in-law, Sally Anderson and Connie Dilley both of Spencer, Gloria and Pete Dickey of Senecaville, OH; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Vickie Griffin and Fred and Naoma Griffin all of Spencer; 13 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 17 in the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Pastor Jeffrey Jett officiating. Burial will be in the Eventide Cemetery, Spencer.
