Odbert Raymond "Peck" Mick, 91 - Jackson Mill, WV

Odbert Raymond "Peck" Mick, 91, of Jackson Mill, WV, formerly of Portersville, PA, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, surrounded by his loving family and in the comfort of his daughter's home in Connoquenessing Twp. PA.

Born January 23, 1922 in Indian Fork, WV. He was the son of the late Guy and Vivian (Moore) Mick.

In his youth, Peck enjoyed sports and played both baseball and football, which later translated into his love for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. He was a devoted member of Blackburn United Methodist Church on Rocky Fork Rd., Gilmer County, WV for many years where he held a position as superintendent of Sunday schools and taught adult Sunday school.

An avid outdoorsman, Peck had a love for nature and enjoyed hunting and gardening.

A proud U.S. Army veteran, he served for 3 years during WWII in the Pacific theater. Peck was known to be a jack-of-all-trades. In his early years he was a Volunteer Fireman in Portersville, PA and worked as a farmer for much of his life. He worked on the pipeline, cut timber at a saw mill, and worked on connecting Route 19 from PA to Weston, WV. Additionally, he worked for 28 years as a Fork Lift Operator for Lava Crucible in Zelienople, PA. Above all, Peck was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and even great-great-grandfather who will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his five children, Carl Mick and wife, Sandy, of Buckhannon, WV, Twila Simko of Baden, PA, Mary Anne Kristophel and husband Dan of Connoquenessing Twp., PA, Joyce Bagnall and companion William of Portersville, PA and Peggy Swatsworth, also of Portersville, PA.

A sister, Lorna Wine of Indian Fork, WV; eleven grandchildren, Annette, Shiela, Leah, Becky, Carl Jr. (Duke), Jason, Tyler, Jimmy, Shanna, Chad and David; twelve great-grandchildren, Amanda, Josie, Kayelyn, Ashley, Stephanie, Jake, Joe, Travis, Kristin, Wyatt, Ethan, and Jessica; and three great-great-grandchildren, Renee, Giovanni and Arianna.

In addition to his parents, Peck was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Wanda L. (Marks) Mick, who passed away December 3, 2007; a brother, Grant Mick, an infant brother, Howard Mick, and a granddaughter, Jessica Kristophel.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc. 2 Vanhorn Dr. Glenville, WV, 26351 at 2:00 PM. Sunday December 8, 2013 with Rev. Bob Pascoe officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackburn Cemetery on Rocky Fork Road, Gilmer County, West Virginia with Full Military Honors. Friends may call from 12 noon-2:00 PM. Sunday at the mortuary.
