Rev. Elverson R. Hopkins, 81 - Elizabeth

Rev. Elverson R. Hopkins, 81 of Elizabeth, West Virginia, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on December 1, 2013.

He was born in Wirt County on October 30, 1932, the son of the late George and Edna Hopkins.

He worked as a carpenter for many years, and also, had his own floor sanding business. In addition to starting churches in Lubeck and New Martinsville, he started and built the current Calvary Apostolic Tabernacle in Elizabeth, where he pastored for 18 years. Beginning with a tent revival in 1969, the congregation's record attendance grew to almost 200 people making it the largest attended church in Wirt County at that time.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Hopkins; five children, Rev. Daniel Hopkins (Adriene) of Vienna WV, Rev. Timothy Hopkins (Jannie) of Elizabeth, Donald Hopkins (Diane) of Elizabeth, Lisa Belt (Rodney) of Elizabeth, and Robyn Carpenter of Parkersburg WV; 20 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters, Philis Curran, Wilma Rogers, Sharon King and Garnet Stevens.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers; 2 sisters; and one grandson Joshua Boggs.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday December 6, 2013 at Calvary Apostolic Tabernacle in Elizabeth WV with the Rev. David Hudson and Rev. Glenville McBride officiating. Interment will be at K of P Cemetery of Elizabeth WV.
