Wanna L. "Beck" Nester, 94 - Spencer

Wanna L. "Beck" Nester, 94, of Spencer, West Virginia, passed away on Thanksgiving Day November 28, 2013.

She was born in Gay community, Roane County WV February 20, 1919 to Lakin and Mary Wolfe Board.

Beck was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph J. Nester as well as six brothers, Toopie, Pete, Happy, Frank, Opie, and Charlie and her one dear sister, Birdie Dawson.

Beck is survived by two daughters, Beverly "Katie" Keen (Larry, deceased) of Ft. Myers, FL and Mary Ann Nester (Robert Ricketts) of Hilton Head, SC. She is also survived by grandchildren, Laura Kay Orr (Bryce Egbert) of Manhattan Beach, CA, Anna Nester Cox (Christian Giroux) of Guelph, Canada, Douglas Cox (Jodi) of Brentwood, TN, and Christopher Cox of Philadelphia, PA; and one great-granddaughter, Hadley Thomas of Manhattan Beach, CA. Also surviving are Beck's younger brothers, Jarrett Board (Alberta Parsons) of Hickory, NC and Dennis Board (Helen Ashley) of Salisbury, NC; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Beck is well know for her love of family and her outstanding cooking and baking skills. She worked for several years at Ashley's Factory Outlet where she thoroughly enjoyed fellow employees and customers alike. She participated in league bowling until the age of 80, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Roane County Republican Women's Club, was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star and a member of the First Advent Christian Church of Spencer. Beck's fun spirit will be missed by many.

A service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer with Pastor James Shamblin officiating. A private burial will be at the Eventide Cemetery in Spencer. Visiting is Sunday from noon until time of the service.
