Ethel Rosalee Jarvis Bowman, 95 - Looneyville

Ethel Rosalee Jarvis Bowman, 95, of Looneyville, West Virginia, died Thursday, November 21, 2013, at Roane General Hospital, Spencer.

She was born September 9, 1918 at Trace Fork, Newton WV, a daughter of the late Benton and Maude Hall Jarvis.

Ethel was a homemaker, and enjoyed sewing, quilting, and horses. She carried the mail on horseback in the late 1930's, and made alterations to military uniforms during World War II. She was also a Girl Scout leader, and attended the Red Knob and Flat Fork Churches.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John Smith Bowman; an infant brother; brother, Mack Jarvis; sisters, Bonnie Dougherty, and Orpha Berry.

She leaves behind her daughters, Bonita Schreckengost of Looneyville, and Maudie Ewing of Eleanor WV; three granddaughters, two step-granddaughters, one step-grandson, one great granddaughter, two step-great-granddaughters, one step-great-grandson, and four nephews.

Funeral service will be Sunday, November 24, at 2 p.m., at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Justin S. Simmons officiating. Burial will be in the Bent Jarvis Cemetery, Looneyville.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the time of service.
