Lisa Hayes-Minney welcomes writer's group

Lisa Hayes-Minney welcomed members of the Calhoun-Gilmer Writer's Guild to her home on Rosedale Road, near Stumptown last Friday evening. Members of the group read some of their own compositions on the Haye's porch, which overlooks the well remembered Hersman Pond, later to be known as Aunt Minnie's Farm.

The site was an early recreational area frequented by residents from Gilmer, Calhoun and Braxton counties. Later it was used for bluegrass festivals.

Hayes, a prolific writer, is now producing a twice yearly publication "The Gilmer Review." With the help of editing consultant Harriet Whipkey, the publication will promote Gilmer county at newsstands, tourist stops and retail outlets. Ten thousand copies will be distributed.

The writer's group will meet next month at the home of Jeannie Wilson, near Grantsville.

Lisa Hayes-Minney can be contacted at 304-354-9132.

Area residents desiring to join the writing group are welcome.
