WV LEGISLATORS LOOKING AT LEGALIZING MEDICAL MARIJUIANA

(11/22/2013)
West Virginia state lawmakers are reviewing a proposal that would legalize medical marijuana in the Mountain State.

Twenty states and Washington D.C. have legalized medical marijuana.

West Virginia is a state that enforces laws against the growing and using of marijuana, often incarcerating offenders.

Legislators have previously rejected proposed legalization efforts for medical marijuana..

Chief Counsel for the House Committee on Health and Resources Charles Roskovensky said if passed, the use would help people with "debilitating medical conditions," like cancer and post traumatic stress disorder.

"I believe that the support is out there from the public, and I believe they've reached out to the legislators," said Del. Mike Manypenny (D-Taylor), who's introduced legalization bills for the past three years.

Legislature watchers give the medical marijuana bill a slim chance.
