Randal Scott Matteson, 42 - Glenville

Randal Scott Matteson age 42 of Glenville, West Virginia, departed this life Sunday morning November 17, 2013 following a sudden illness.

Born April 16, 1971, son of Janet K. Hughes Matteson of Bridgewater, Virginia, and the late Ronald E. Matteson.

Randy was a 1989 graduate of LaSalle Peru Township High School and a United States Army Veteran. He worked as a Guard for the United States Bureau of Prisons at the FCI Gilmer Facility. Randy loved spending time with son Ethan and was looking forward to the arrival of his second son. He enjoyed teasing his nieces and nephew, cooking, gardening, traveling, being in the company of friends and family, and telling creative stories to make people laugh.

On September 10, 2011 he was united in marriage to Valerie Henry Matteson, who survives at their Camden Flats home.

Along with his wife and mother, Randy is survived by 2 sons, Ethan Scott Matteson of Glenville, and Jayse Ronald Matteson, who is due to arrive in March. He is also survived by 1 brother, Russell L. Matteson and wife Erin of Modesto, California; 1 sister, Joyce McGiles and husband Michael of Jacksonville, Illinois; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Hughes of Danville, Illinois; 3 nieces and 1 nephew, Emily and Hannah Matteson of Modesto, CA; and Molly and Jacob McGiles of Jacksonville, IL.

Along with his father, Randy was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Leon and Rogene Matteson and maternal grandfather Russell Hughes.

Funeral Services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 23, 2013 with Rev. Kenny Fisher and Rev. Jeff Carr officiating. A committal service will follow at the Cedar Creek State Park with Full Military Honors.

At Randy's request he will cremated following services. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m.- 12 noon Friday morning, 4-8 p.m. Friday Evening, and 9-11 a.m., Saturday morning at the Mortuary.
