PATTERSON SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OF MINOR

(01/10/2015)
Clarke Douglas Patterson, 45, who had been charged with sexual exploitation of a minor 13-year-old, was sentenced to one to three years in the state penitentiary for attempting to commit sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, or custodian, according to prosecutor Shannon Johnson.

Patterson was sentenced this week by Judge Thomas Evans III.

Patterson, a former resident of Morgantown, entered a no contest plea to an attempt to commit sexual abuse.

State Police Trooper David C. Moore, in a criminal complaint, says Patterson made unwanted sexual advances toward the female who was in his custody while he was taking her to Calhoun Middle-High School.

The complaint describes an offer by Patterson to the minor girl to skip school and "fool around," among other behaviors performed at a residence in the Chloe area.

Patterson's sentence is to be served concurrently to a sentence already imposed in Clay County, said prosecutor Johnson.

Patterson will have to register as a sex offender for life and will be on extended probation following his release from the penitentiary. He was also ordered to pay court costs.
