By Cory Boothe Coryboothe@hotmail.com 2014 is at our doorsteps. A new year full of new outdoor opportunities. Trout stockings will begin in January. Small game and trapping seasons are still in for over a month. During the worst winter has to offer, is the best time to be outside. I avoid cabin fever by not being in the cabin. Nearby impoundments such as Cedar Creek Lake in Gilmer and Miletree Lake in Roane County will be stocked with trout in January. The Calhoun County Park Pond will be stocked early this spring. Other fish such as panfish, walleyes, and muskies are active during winter. Squirrel season is in until January 31st. Rabbit, ruffed grouse, and trapping seasons are in until February 28th. Just remember, a new license must be purchased at the beginning of each year.
