Alta V. Keen, 85 - Spencer

Alta V. Keen, 85, of Spencer, West Virginia, died Thursday, November 7, 2013, in the Roane General Hospital, Spencer.

She was born July 10, 1928, at Sand Ridge, Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Lewis and Otta Poling Brannon.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven siblings, Paul Brannon and Mildred Underwood of Charleston, Imogene Brannon of Pt. Pleasant, Madeline Smith of Spencer and three infants.

Born in Calhoun County, she grew up in Spencer. Alta graduated from Spencer High School with the Class of 1947. She was an avid reader. Alta also loved to fish and travel.

Alta retired in April 1991, having served as office manager of Hardman's Offices in Spencer. She began her career with them in June 1949 and after her retirement, worked part time until 2004.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Gale Franklin Keen; several nieces and nephews.

There will be no service or visitation. She has been cremated.

John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is in charge of arrangements.
