WV MAKING IMPROVEMENTS WITH ENERGY EFFICIENCY - State Still Ranked Near Bottom

(11/07/2013)
West Virginia is near the bottom with the energy efficiency of its homes and buildings, but has been listed as one of the most improved states, by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy.

"Energy efficiency improvements help businesses, governments, and consumers meet their needs by using less energy, saving them money, driving investments across all sectors of the economy, creating much needed jobs, and reducing the myriad of environmental impacts of the energy production system," reported the group.

ACEEE listed several states, Mississippi, Connecticut, Illinois and West Virginia, that took "major steps that moved them up in the ranks" with this year's scorecard.

West Virginia made "notable policy improvements" over the past year, including passage of legislation to update the state's building energy codes, and approving "Complete Streets" legislation aimed at making streets friendlier to all modes of transportation, such as bicycles.>{? The report says West Virginia is up three slots in the group's state-by-state rankings, but still the state at 46th in the country for energy-efficiency programs.
