CALHOUN FFA FORESTRY TEAM 6TH IN NATION

(11/05/2013)

(L-R) Kelsey Jett, Cody Starcher, Nick Smith, Logan McKown

By Delaney Cunningham
Calhoun FFA Reporter

four FFA students from Calhoun County went to Louisville, Kentucky for the National FFA convention held Oct. 28th through Nov. 2nd.

Those attending were Nicholas Smith, Cody Starcher, Kelsey Jett, and Logan McKown. Calhoun placed as the 6th best Forestry team in the country.

Nicholas Smith got 4th place individually and won $700.00. Cody Starcher was 16th, Kelsey Jett 39th, and Logan McKown 50th. They were all gold pin winners.

A record crowd with numbers over 86,000 members and guests were registered at this year's convention.

While attending the FFA session they were lucky enough to listen to the amazing story of their guest speaker, Joe Torrillo. On 9/11/01 he was buried alive twice, had severe injuries and still managed to survive two building collapses. His story was truly inspiring.

On their own time members went to the Salato Wildlife Center, Louisville Zoo, a Dierks Bentley Concert, World's toughest rodeo and the FFA shopping mall and career show.

Steve and Jenna Jett were chaperones for the trip and were very active in doing all of the activities with the 4 members and the group advisor, Mr. Donald Poage.
