Rev. Keith Belt filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church. Keith is scheduled to get married on November 9 at the New Home (Mayberry) Church. He is marrying the lovely Carolyn who works at the Cardinal Pharmacy in Elizabeth. His mother came back from Cleveland for the nuptials. She is to undergo ticker modifications there.

Some bow hunters report harvesting some tasty fresh venison and Cap'n Eddie Norman said he shot some nice squirrels so that Dorothy Lynch could cook up a meal. Acorns are scarce although walnuts are plentiful.

Charles Russell was calling on Parris Parsons, Ray Gumm & Euell Russell at the Miletree Center. Not so long back Ray & Euell went to the football game.

Alvin & Nancy Engelke returned from a trip to Ohio Amish country. Some 50 years back the writer read an article written by one of the "experts" bemoaning the fact that 'those Amish' are buying up the farmland in Holmes County [Ohio] and talked about the economic doom that would ensue. Most of the counties in the nation would love to have half of the economic activity that is in Holmes County, almost all of which is based on the Amish [& Mennonite] farmers, the food they grow and all the folks who flock to an area that shows agriculture at its best. One can drive for miles along some roads with prosperous farms and no electric poles can be seen. No doubt the big eared one's EPA would like to "get" them for "Pollution" as they probably didn't fill out nutrient management forms for their farms.

Mr. & Mrs. Bernard Wyatt, Mr. & Mrs. Bernard Nicholas, Delbert Bunner, Phyllis Crossland, Esther Rubiro, Florence Bishop, Mr. & Mrs. Allen Thomas, Pearl Bollinger, Janet & Jessica Jett & daughter, Brenda Ward and Norman Simmons were among those attending to business in Creston over the weekend.

The RINO [republican in name only] Republicans have now declared war on the Tea Party Patriots and those elected to the congress that believe in the Constitution. Some just don't get it that ordinary people in "flyover country" do not approve of "business as usual" down in the swamps of the lower Potomac and if that means retiring folks like Sen. McVain, McConnell, Lindsey Graham, etc., so be it. With friends like them who needs enemies? One would hope that Shelly Moore Capito will, when elected to the Senate, stand shoulder to shoulder with Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, not be like those vapid New England lady senators who blow with the wind.

The government mandated "fast time" finally came to an end. Folks can now reset their biological clocks.

Local residents are having "more fun" with the FEMA flood maps. Flood insurance is only sold by the federal government; thus a single payer plan with NO alternatives. Some folks flood insurance premiums went from $300 to $28,000/year which means that insurance is unobtainable. Of course similar situations are playing out with Obamacare which is the first step to single payer health insurance or socialized medicine. It was learned that contrary to the hype 6 folks signed up the first day and about 250 on day two. Of course folks who were "signing up" were told that there was no guarantee that their private information and financial matters would remain protected from identity thieves, etc. Also there is now the 'sticker shock' and in W. Va. there is only one company offering the government approved plans which give maternity coverage for 60 year old single men. On the state exchanges almost all of the signup folks were for Medicaid which means that working folks will pay for all those [welfare] "health benefits". One local woman was having blood pressure problems and after spending some time in two hospitals she was sent home. Since she is over 65 she was not admitted even though she was there for hours, transferred from on to the other in an ambulance and has PEIA insurance coverage.

Antero announced that they plan to drill a number of horizontal Marcellus wells under Pennsboro and treated the residents of that community to a big meal. It was not made clear how much royalty the citizens would be paid and whether it was a net or a gross royalty. Antero pays a minimum of 20% on the leases that they obtained from Mother Hope/Dominion/Consol. Energy Corporation of America has announced plans for a well pad just outside Glenville so it is likely a number of towns will be drilled in the not too distant future. Meanwhile Utica talk continues for the region and going all the way to southern West Virginia. The Wood County Clerk noted that a group would be working in the Wood County Court House within the next few months.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude oil fell to $92.11/bbl. with drip fetching $71.71, Marcellus & Utica light $85.19 and medium $93.61/bbl. The views and opinions expressed herein are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Hur Herald.
