WOMAN WHO RUNS DOWN STATE TROOPER PLEADS GUILTY

(10/29/2013)
A woman has pleaded guilty to malicious wounding in an incident in which she hit off-duty state trooper Sgt. Aaron Nichols with her car in December, 2012.

Jennifer Garretson was fleeing the scene after a shoplifting incident at Goodys in St. Albans.

Sgt. Nichols was off-duty when he tried to intervene.

News media said witnesses heard Nichols identify himself as a police officer, trying to get her to stop.

She made it to her car, jumped in and nearly ran him over. Witnesses said Nichols jumped onto the trunk of the car, to avoid being hit, but she allegedly drove in a circle, throwing him off.

Sgt. Nichols is still recovering from his injuries.
