MARCELLUS GAS BOOM WON'T DECLARE SHARE OF WV WORKERS EMPLOYED

(10/29/2013)
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin is touting that the boom in natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale field "continues to have a positive impact on West Virginia's economy."

Employment in oil and gas industries grew by just more than 20 percent in 2012, according to a report from the Department of Commerce's Workforce West Virginia.

Average wages also increased, from about $70,000 to $75,600, according to the report.

Left out of the report for a second year - how many of the Marcellus rush jobs are going to West Virginia residents, and how many to out-of-state workers.

State labor groups have complained that companies were bringing in out-of-state workers to fill too many of the new jobs.
