It was a festive atmosphere at Roane County Stadium Friday night with Maroon clad cheerleaders all over the place from the broadcast booth all the way down to the playing field as Luke Scott rushed for 291 yards and four touchdowns as the Raiders posted a 56-12 victory over winless Calhoun County.

Actually the game was over at halftime as the Class AA Raiders, 5-2, took a 36-6 lead and was not headed by the Class A 0-8 Red Devils.

The Raiders, keeping their playoff hopes alive, had 319 yards rushing in the fist half compared to six for Calhoun. The Red Devils had 35 yards passing in the first half as they hit on two of 11 attempts.

Calhoun did not help itself either as it was whistled for several penalties including four 15-yard personal fouls.

The Red Devils had a pair of first down with both coming on their 11-play, 52-yard scoring drive. Both first downs came on fourth down attempts.

Roane County left its first unit in for most of the third quarter as it attempted to let Scott gain enough yards to go over the 1,000-yard plateau on the season.

Both teams finished the game playing as many subs as possible in the final quarter.

Along with Scott Roane County also had a solid game from freshman Tyler May who rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown. His brother, Cody a senior, had a touchdown as did Steve McGinnis and Trey Wanstead.

Calhoun got on the board early in the second quarter when Logan Moore hooked up with Mason Sheldon, who out-wrestled Roane's outstanding wide receiver Tyler King, for the score on a 17 yard pass.

The Red Devils also had a late touchdown on a 10-yard run by Casey Ritchie against the Roane County reserves.

Cole Ritchie led Calhoun with 49 yards rushing on nine carries. Ethyn Miller led the Red Devils with three receptions for 26 yards while Sheldon had 17 on his one reception.

Roane County dominated statistically with 455 yards rushing and 17 first downs.

The only area the Raiders had a problem was with penalties where it had 12 for 140 yards including several for late hits, including three on one drive that ended with the Red Devils at the Raiders' five.

Calhoun is home to Wirt County this coming Friday while Roane County travels to Herbert Hoover.
