CHARLES MARSHALL NAMED GSC HEAD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACH

(10/12/2013)
Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State College President Dr. Peter Barr and Athletic Director Janet Bailey announce the hiring of Charles Marshall as the new GSC Head Lady Pioneers Basketball Coach. He replaces Bunky Harkleroad who resigned to accept the Head Women's job at Sacramento State in California.

Marshall was an assistant to Harkleroad during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons, which included the WVIAC Conference Tournament Championship for the Lady Pioneers in 2010-11.

"I am truly blessed to have this opportunity here at Glenville State College. I am excited to be back amongst friends and can't wait to get started," stated Marshall.

Charles is originally from Kennesaw, Georgia and has an extensive background in coaching.

As a player, Marshall enjoyed a successful prep career at Pleasure Ridge Park High School in Louisville, one of the top high school programs in the State of Kentucky. As a senior, he hit the game-winning shot to send his team to the state tournament. As a Berea College freshman, Marshall was a key contributor to a team that advanced to the NAIA Final Four for the first and only time in school history. After his senior season, he was named KIAC 1st Team All-Conference and NAIA Honorable Mention All-American after averaging 18.3 points per game and leading the Mountaineers to another berth in the NAIA national tournament.

Coach Marshall served as an assistant coach at Berea College from 2004 to 2005.

He was also recently inducted into the Berea College Athletic Hall of Fame (2013).

"We are truly excited about Coach Marshall's return. We know that he will do an amazing job leading our Lady Pioneer Basketball team," stated GSC Athletic Director Janet Bailey.

Marshall graduated from Berea College with a B.S. in industrial technology in 2004. He and his wife Sharonda have three daughters: Jordyn, Jayli, and Jiya.
