The Clay County Commission has appointed a new sheriff.
They have selected Garrett Samples, Jr. to fill the remainder of Miles Slack's term.
Miles Slack resigned the position after charges were filed against him for wiretapping and pleading guilty.
Samples is currently the county's home confinement officer.
