The big Creston ATV Poker Run will be Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the Creston Community Building. Signups are from 9 A. M. to noon and riders are urged to start early on the run which likely will be wet & muddy as fall came in wet in the Creston area. The West Fork and the main Little Kanawha both came up though there was no flooding.

Mary Javins Weaver brought the message at the Burning Springs M. E. Church while Rev. Keith Belt was off at "preacher training" at the Methodist Camp [the old Lucy Goff farm] on Spring Creek. Her family formerly lived in Creston.

Squirrels are presently cutting on hickory nuts of which there are many. There is also a heavy mast of beech nuts and walnuts but, at least in some places, not many acorns. Some are antsy for the starting of bow season & a trophy buck in the Beaver Dam section has some salivating.

The Japanese stilt grass is in bloom. This is the last chance to keep the exotic noxious & toxic pest from seeding and spreading. In many places there are solid stands.

The state decided that they couldn't control the emerald ash borer and decided to just let all the ash trees in the state die. There are several along W. Va. 5. They would still be fine for making wood handles [for those who do not have 'allergies' to wood handled tools]. The pests came in packing crates from China to Detroit and then were spread by folks hauling firewood to campsites elsewhere. One might note that the shipping of the pests from China could be considered biological warfare as only a maximum of 2% of imports are checked by customs -- so if a government 'shutdown' then the impact would only be 2% on import inspection. It has been reported that the financial happenings of September 2008 have now been linked to foreign powers thus indicating a hostile economic attack on the nation coordinated with venal domestic politicians and media allies.

There has been a lot of talk about the shooting at the Naval facility in Washington D. C. The shooter, who had a long record both in the service and in private life, because of political correctness, was able to get a "top-secret" clearance and then the swat team was told to "stand down". Some said that was a "turf war" between different agencies, but . . . . The rescue team for Benghazi was also told to stand down & Madame Hillary said "What difference does it make?"

Folks have been vaccinating cattle and making arrangements to sell calves, etc.

James Matheny was attending to business in Creston over the weekend.

J. P. & A. C. Marks were among those calling on Mr. & Mrs. R. P. Marks & daughter Rylynn up in Ohio.

Ray Atkinson said he reads the Creston news every week "to keep up on what is going on". The Creston Motorcycle Gang was dining at Quinet's Restaurant In New Martinsville which is famous for its food.

The legislative interems are happening down at the Mouth of the Elk and one of the big items on the agenda is forced pooling which is now called "lease integration". The big boys, led by Equitable (EQT) don't want to have to deal with landowners who expect to be paid a fair royalty for the Marcellus, Utica and other new producing horizons. EQT's head lobbyist is the brother of the State Treasurer, etc. Folks should consult their favorite legislators and point out that with fair royalty payments, etc. the state and counties will collect volumes more in taxes -- if that is of any interest.

The fiber optic cable guys were working down on the Petty place apparently in the plan to bring high speed internet to Creston. Presently the satellite is overloaded and service is sporadic, at best.

In Colorado, two of the big liberal anti-gun state senators were recalled even though New York billionaire mayor Bloomberg had millions spent to keep them in power. Bloomberg is now Joe Manchin's sugar daddy, apparently replacing Mr. Pushkar. It was noted that the super rich are doing better while all others have lost financial ground during the last few years. Obviously it pays to go to political events held by those who say they are for the common people but charge $38,500/plate to get in the door.

Obamacare continues to be a hot topic with the realization that one "must" give the government all, that is all your personal information, sex life, etc. The "navigators" who are paid big bucks [by the taxpayers] to help folks have minimal training and no one will say that the data will stay 'secure'. Obviously, a high school dropout was able to get all the nation's secrets and give them to the Chinese & Russian enemies.

There was a fire at Dominion's big new fractionation plant at Natrium on the Wetzel/Marshall County line. W. Va. Route 2 was closed for hours as was the rail road along the Ohio River. Local producers have been advised that non-firm transport gas that goes through Cornwell Station in Clay County may be shut in for months as a result of the fire at Natrium. Natural gas from Wirt & Calhoun Counties that goes into Eastern American's line is impacted as is gas that goes in the old Gas Transport line that formerly went to the potteries at Logan, Ohio.

Mountain V drilled a Berea well near Garfield.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude dropped to $104.39 with Appalachian light sweet (drip) fetching $83.12, Marcellus & Utica light $100.60 and medium $105.89/bbl.
