Parkersburg Catholic scored early, often and in a variety of ways Friday night to roll to a 56-6 victory over Calhoun County taking some of the glitz and glamour off the Red Devils' homecoming celebration.

The Crusaders, 3-1, took three plays to get on the board as Jake Boice scored on a 58-yard run. Peter Kiesler kicked the extra points and the 7-0 lead was enough to win the game.

However, PCHS got two more touchdowns from Boice, two from Nick Roedersheimer and one each from Peyton Sturm, Brett Barton and Neal Schriner.

Boice's other touchdowns came on a 24-yard run and a 39-yard pass interception. Roedersheimer's touchdowns were on a 35-yard run and a 60-yard fumble recovery while Sturm ran for one touchdown and passed for two others - 49 yards to Barton and 20 yards to Schriner.

Calhoun's lone score came on a two-yard run by Cole Ritchie early in the second quarter.

Giving credit where credit is due PCHS substituted as freely as possible with a roster of only 21 players and it never tried an onside kick or do anything to run the score up.

On the other side of the ball, giving credit where credit is due Calhoun played the game with only one senior - David Overbay - as injuries and the like took the other four out of the game.

Playing with a team of literally all underclassmen Calhoun did not throw in the towel or let down in intensity during the contest.

Offensively the Red Devils moved the ball on the ground despite only coming away with one score.

Calhoun ran the ball 47 times for 228 yards with freshman Seth Moore leading the way with 63 yards on seven carries. Sophomore quarterback Casey Ritchie was next with 57 yards on 11 carries while Kirkland Allen added 44, Cole Ritchie 43 and Dylan Heiney one.

Calhoun completed one of the six passes it threw with Allen catching it for six yards.

And, the Red Devils came away with 11 first downs.

However, although the Red Devils moved the ball, they still had some crucial miscues that caught up with them as one drive ended on downs at the PCHS six yard line. Another ended with a fumble that PCHS returned for a score. And another ended with a pass interception that PCHS also returned for a score.

But Friday night did provide a look at the personnel that will be the Calhoun football team in the future.

Calhoun, 0-4, returns to action Friday night when it travels to play winless Tyler Consolidated while Parkersburg Catholic is home Saturday night against Wirt County.
