US SPACECRAFT LAUNCHED 36 YEARS AGO HEADED TO GALAXIES FAR, FAR AWAY

It was little noted in the hubris of the daily news.

NASA says Voyager 1, launched 36 years ago, is speeding out of the solar system to galaxies far away.

It is the first spacecraft ever to leave the solar system.

Voyager 1 was launched in 1977 on a tour of the solar systems outer planets, and is now entering interstellar space, a vast, cold emptiness between the stars.
