Wirt County schools have a new superintendent to administer the state's smallest school system.

The local board has hired Mary Jane Pope Albin, a school improvement specialist, working under RESA 1 in Beckley.

Albin has accepted a one-year contract for $93,000, and is expected to start the job next week.

Dan Metz is retiring from the job and the county school system after a 33-year run.
