WEST NILE DETECTED IN ROANE - Seventeen Counties Have Positive ID, One Case In A Horse

West Nile Virus has been detected in at least one bird in Roane County, according to the West Virginia Department of Health. At least 17 counties have now had positive identification for the disease which is spread by mosquitos.

At least one bird from Calhoun has been submitted for testing.

The first case in a horse has been announced by the state Department of Agriculture, found in Mercer County.

So far, in West Virginia, no case of human contact has been reported.

The disease cannot be spread from animals to humans.
