THIRD EARTHQUAKE STRIKES GILMER COUNTY NEAR DRILLING SITES

(08/17/2013)
A third earthquake was felt in Gilmer County about 7 a.m. Friday.

According to the USGS, the 2.6 magnitude earthquake epicenter was about eight miles southwest of Glenville in the area where Marcellus Shale drilling and facking is happening in the Normantown-Lockney area.

The epicenter of this quake was in a rural area not far from Normantown.

Ron McDowell, a geologist at the WV Geological and Economical Survey, says the quakes are not connected to human activity or Marcellus drilling , including quakes in Braxton County near injection wells.
