Auto lands in West Fork under bridge

Two people received injuries when their car skidded off rain-slick Route 16 between Orma and Minnora Tuesday night about 9:30 p.m. The auto, traveling north, plunged into the West Fork, landing in water underneath a bridge.

Injured was Virginia Cooper Myers, about 48, of Sinking Springs. Her husband, Robert Myers, was also reportedly injured.

Calhoun EMS took the injured to Roane General and Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center. The extent of their injuries were unknown.

Calhoun EMS and members of the Upper West Fork VFD worked in the creek during a downpour of rain for about thirty minutes removing Mrs. Myers. Mr. Myers reportedly made it up the riverbank to the highway to summon help.

The Myers' son Alexander James Cooper, 20, died on August 15.

Calhoun Sheriff Allen Parsons is investigating the accident.
