UPDATE: WIRT SCHOOL EMPLOYEE SUSPENSION LINKED TO IMPROPER CONDUCT - School Board Dealing With Issue Tuesday

(07/25/2013)
UPDATE- Following executive sessions Tuesday night of the Wirt Board of Education, the board accepted Lijiah Heiney's resignation as teacher and employee at Wirt County High School effective immediately.

Heiney, 36, a graduate of Glenville State College and Calhoun High School in 1995, has been a math teacher and a girl's basketball coach for several years.

Wirt County school superintendent Dan Metz and Wirt County Sheriff Keith Wilson told the Parkersburg News that a resignation was related to an investigation connected to a possible relationship between a Wirt teacher/coach and a student.

Wirt Sheriff Keith Wilson has not been available by phone or email to confirm an ongoing investigation on the matter, or whether charges are pending.

ORIGINAL STORY/July 23, 2013 -The Wirt County Board of Education was set to conduct executive sessions at Tuesday night's meeting related to the suspension of a teacher/coach.

Wirt County school superintendent Dan Metz and Wirt County Sheriff Keith Wilson confirmed with Parkersburg media that the investigation was related to a possible relationship between a Wirt teacher/coach and a student.

Allegations regarding the situation have been widespread on Facebook in the Wirt Community, but so far no charges have been filed.

Superintendent Metz said the board has sought legal counsel, and will hear the attorney's advice during the executive session.

Metz indicated a school employee has been suspended, and the board will be asked whether to uphold that suspension.

Sheriff Keith Wilson was not available by phone Tuesday morning to confirm an ongoing investigation on the matter, or whether charges are pending.

Superintendent Metz told the Parkersburg News, "I don't believe I should give board members information when the employee hasn't had a chance to," indicating that the person's name will be released following the meeting.
